SHORT TERM DISABILITY


Short Term Disability coverage will compensate Local 196 members for up to 26 weeks for off the job injuries or illnesses which affect your ability to work. This coverage stacks on top of your Lineco $400/week benefit. Active Local 196 members can select a flat rate option of $250 or $500 a week or a larger weekly benefit payment based off of your projected income; all benefit payments are paid directly to you tax free.

LONG TERM DISABILITY


Long Term Disability coverage continues to provide benefit payments for either 5 or 10 years following the 26 week STD coverage. Monthly benefit amounts received by active Local 196 members are 60% of your projected income and are paid directly to you tax free.

LIFE/AD&D


Life Insurance including Accidental Death & Dismemberment is available to all active Local 196 members up to $250,000 in coverage. Local 196 members are guaranteed approved without answering medical questions, taking physical exams or referencing medical history. Life insurance is also available for Local 196 family members; spouses may select up to $50,000 of coverage and dependents can receive $10,000 of coverage; all life insurance benefit payments are paid out tax free.

The IBEW Local 196 is proud to announce new voluntary insurance benefits being offered to only to our members!

The purpose of this group insurance plan is to give you options to supplement your income in the event that you cannot work as a result of an injury or illness. The group plan offers Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverages. All coverages are 100% voluntary and you may pick and choose the best options for you and your family.

All of the available coverages are offered separately and a member’s participation in one or all of those coverages, and the level to which they elect to participate, is voluntary and strictly their individual choice.

The purpose of this group insurance plan is to give you options to supplement your income in the event that you cannot work as a result of an injury or illness. The group plan offers Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverages.

All insurance under this Union Group Policy will cover you for as long as you continue to remain actively employed.

Group Insurance Information

This page will provide you with information related to your union’s group insurance plan. Here you can view and download a copy of the group policy/benefits booklet, view rates, and request information. If you have any questions regarding the benefits options that you are currently enrolled in, please call 847-387-3555.

Please note that if you are suspended, dismissed, or retire, you are no longer eligible for disability coverage and should contact our office immediately at 847-387-3555.

Disabilities that occur after being removed from service are not covered. If you do not contact our office within 30 days of your date of dismissal or date of retirement, there will be no refund for any premiums paid. It is the responsibility of the member to contact Cornerstone Benefits Management at 847-387-3555 or by email at info@uniondisability.com.

You will be able to resume your coverage if you return to work within 12 months. If dismissed or suspended, you may keep your life insurance coverage for up to 12 months as long as premiums are paid. Beyond 12 months, your coverage will terminate unless you convert or port the policy.

Note: This also applies to any member who has not had a formal hearing.

Reminder

This is a group insurance plan; therefore, the costs and benefits are determined by the overall claims experience of the group. Your future rates and benefits may change regardless of whether or not you’ve ever filed a claim.

Know Your Responsibilities

It is the responsibility of the member to notify Cornerstone Benefits Management if employment or union status changes. Failure to properly notify Cornerstone Benefits Management could result in loss of premiums and/or insurance coverage.
